Famous TV host and producer Geoff Keeley and PlayStation chief architect Mark Cerny announced the launch of a large-scale charity project – the Nova Games Foundation. Designed to support aspiring game designers, the university-affiliated scholarship program will provide six-figure bursaries to 20 talented graduates each year.
The founders, who put millions of dollars of their own money into the fund without taking an equity stake in the company or returning their investment, see the project as a way to support the industry and help new voices emerge. Experienced experts have also been brought in to manage the program: John Makonga has been appointed executive director, with former GDC director Ashley Corrigan taking over as head of grants.
