Nintendo has announced the first special edition of the Switch 2 portable gaming console – The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition. The device is already available for pre-order for $519.99. Theme Pro Controller is also available for $99.99. Both new products will be released on October 29th.

The first Zelda-themed Nintendo handheld console was the Game Boy Advance SP, which was released in 2004 with The Legend of Zelda: Minicap. The first standard game console to feature this design was the Wii U, released in 2013 in the style of Windrunner HD. In 2023, the manufacturer released the “Tears of the Kingdom” themed Switch OLED, and the Switch Lite Hyrule version will be launched next year.
Taking into account all released Nintendo consoles, the new product will be the 12th Zelda-themed device. Interestingly, the original Zelda-themed Switch came out just a few months after the standard device launched. However, we’ll have to wait longer for a similar version of the Switch 2, and this device is sure to become a collector’s item.
The console itself mostly retains the familiar black color. However, the green Joy-Cons look more interesting. The docking station comes in luxurious gold and black and features unique symbols from the game. Even the packaging is expected to have a textured foil lid. The console retails for $520 and does not include any games.
Nintendo will also release a Switch 2 Pro controller, which looks very similar to the Joy-Con – with a yellow-green color and symbols that reference the game. It sells for $100 on its own, but is also available with a matching stand for $110.
Buyers can also purchase a $40 suitcase decorated with Zelda-inspired artwork. It comes with a microfiber cloth and screen protector.
Please note that all new items mentioned are in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series, which passed earlier this year. They have nothing to do with the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. Nintendo has started taking pre-orders for all new products it has released, with sales starting at the end of October.
