Independent film company Neon has released the first trailer for Artificial , a film directed by Luca Guadagnino. The star-studded film is about OpenAI and is expected to explore the history of the company’s CEO Sam Altman, who was briefly ousted in 2023.

In the minute-long trailer, Andrew Garfield, who plays Ultraman, enters a bunker whose walls are lined with weapons and stocked with supplies. Nearly throughout the film, the protagonist’s voiceover is heard discussing the future of artificial intelligence. “Together we have opened Pandora’s box. The future is unstoppable. Countries will decline. Industries will collapse. It falls on us to accompany people into this new world. I am looking forward to this moment.”he said.

The climax of the monologue is the confrontation between Ultraman and Ilya Suzkovel (played by Oscar nominee Yura Borisov). Sutskever, one of the founders of OpenAI, was one of the initiators of Ultraman’s ouster.

The film’s story somewhat echoes the crisis surrounding Ultraman’s removal: In June, Amazon’s MGM Studios dropped Luca Guadagnino’s new film – with the project being taken over by Neon. Three months ago, Amazon announced its intention to invest $50 billion in OpenAI. “Artificial” will be released in limited release on December 25; the film will be released widely in January.
