Standing Stone Games has launched the first preview test of Update 82 for the MMORPG Dungeons & Dragons Online, which focuses on major adjustments to the game’s balance. The current pause between content releases allows developers to focus on key mechanics that need urgent tweaks.
This large-scale patch affects the global system of weapon combat characteristics, ranged combat, and reaper mechanics, and redesigns monster and spell bugs. The author has also made changes to the development tree, reducing the cost of Improvement Points (AP) and adding a new perk, “Lock,” which increases melee power when using two-handed weapons. The creators admit that they don’t actually have time to cover all the problem areas in the current patch, but they promise to continue polishing the base system.
How often do you think developers of older MMORPGs should take a massive break to overhaul classes and balance?
