Saudi Arabia’s public private equity fund is considering merging Electronic Arts with its gaming holding company Savvy Games Group. According to Bloomberg insiders, the fund’s management is discussing the move to improve coordination among the industry’s many assets. A final decision has not yet been made and official representatives from each party have not commented.
The potential deal would bring together major franchises such as The Sims, battlefield and EA Sports Clubas well as mobile projects from Savvy-owned publisher Scopely. Previously, the $55 billion acquisition of Electronic Arts caused serious concerns among players and employees due to the possibility of large-scale layoffs and censorship of LGBTQ+-themed content. If the merger goes ahead, the combined entity will once again be subject to stringent regulatory scrutiny in global markets.
