Since the domestic film distribution structure has fundamentally changed after 2022, and we will not share the value judgment in which direction now, for Russian film producers, in the context of the lack of mass competition, not only the transom has opened, but also the door to the world of big profits has been opened. They are taking full advantage of the opportunity that still exists.

Well, judging from the statistics of the UAIS Film Fund over the weekend it becomes well knownIt is understood that the Russian box office of the movie “The Last Hero. Kolobok” exceeded 1 billion rubles in 39 days after its release. To date, this is the sixth domestic film released in 2026 to successfully overcome this (quite literally) important psychological and financial hurdle. To date, a total of 45 Russian films have grossed more than 1 billion rubles at the box office.
An important caveat must be made here. According to public information, the production budget of “Kolobok” has also reached 1 billion rubles. So it’s only now, nearly a month and a half after its premiere, that the film has recouped its own production costs. And, obviously, the situation is not going to improve, since the holidays are behind us and now people no longer have time to go to the movies.
In other words, despite the formally high box office receipts of Russian reality films, The Last of Bogatyer Kolobok has proven to be a commercially unsuccessful project due to its excessive budget. After all, it’s customary to make money from movie theaters rather than break even.
