The GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card enters the market with a suggested price of $2,000, but the actual cost of the most affordable version recently reached $5,000 in the United States, and the card costs more than 5,200 euros in Europe. It turns out that the GeForce RTX 5090, positioned as a solution for gamers, is now widely used to handle AI tasks.

If during the cryptocurrency boom, GeForce graphics cards were bought in bulk by mining companies, making it difficult for gamers to find them at the right price, now they are being dismantled to assemble AI systems. As early as April 2025, there were reports that a Vietnamese PC manufacturer was using RTX 5090 to power its own AI servers, with seven servers installed per device.

However, knowing how to make gaming graphics cards less attractive for AI tasks, Nvidia is unlikely to limit their performance.
The company has also taken no real steps to prevent entire pallets of such cards from being sold en masse, even in China. Nvidia could at least tighten the rules for wholesale sales of GeForce cards through partner manufacturers and distributors – it’s not difficult to track sales of high-volume graphics cards (each card has a serial number). But the company isn’t doing that either because it’s actively promoting its artificial intelligence products.
