It looks like one of NVIDIA’s main aces in computing is slowly starting to be unraveled. An enthusiast has put together ZLUDA and AMD HIP/ROCm, which allows you to run CUDA-oriented software directly on Radeon graphics cards under Windows – no virtual machines, Linux, and dual boot required.
project CUDA for AMD Windows is a set of PowerShell scripts that automatically set up the required environment. The foundation is ZLUDA, which is a translation layer for CUDA calls that converts them into commands that AMD can understand. The system is currently being tested on the Radeon RX 9060 XT, which is believed to be the only officially supported card at the moment.
We have successfully compared the CUDA driver API to the AMD analog and also enabled cuBLAS, cuSPARSE and cuFFT to work. As a demonstration, we even trained a small neuron with 2.2 million parameters on an RX 9060 XT without modifying the CUDA library.
It’s important to understand that not everything works and the authors still have a lot of work to do to complete this software and optimize it.
