Spending several thousand dollars to buy a graphics card seems to at least guarantee normal warranty service. But owners of the RTX 5090 Founders Edition from the UK have to face an unexpected problem – NVIDIA refuses to accept repairs on the graphics card due to the faded serial number.
The user purchased the card directly from the NVIDIA store about a year ago. Recently, when it was fully loaded, it began to freeze and black screen, and then the owner sent it to the manufacturer. What followed was a month of waiting, and finally NVIDIA announced that it would return the card and would not repair or replace it.
It was only after contacting customer service again that the reason for the rejection was found out. According to users, the serial number on the metal bracket of the graphics card became difficult to read, so the company deemed it “illegal.” Also retained are the original box with serial number and the owner’s proof of purchase.
What’s most jarring is that this case doesn’t appear to be isolated. In the reviews, other users reported that they noticed the serial numbers on their Founders Edition graphics cards fading after a few months of use. An RTX 5080 user also reported a similar warranty denial.
