project juiceemulator fork Yuzu on Nintendo Switchending with version 0.0.4, which introduced a new mode called the recompiler. The update comes as development of Suyu also ends, but it brings potential technical changes related to simulation performance, especially in mid-range computer.

huge progress

New function usage Ahead of static recompilation of AArch64 code Switch game, convert it to a native x86-64 executable for PC, and integrate it with Suyu’s HLE backend. Unlike the JIT approach used by emulators such as Yuzu and Ryujinx, the code is converted ahead of time, eliminating some of the work normally done during execution.

According to analysis, this approach reduces load on the CPU and helps limit some of the slowdowns associated with shader compilation. As a result, the processor requirements needed to get some performance are reduced, which could be an advantage, especially in mid-range systems and configurations designed to achieve higher resolutions and frame rates.

However, the term “native” should be interpreted with caution. Recompiler mode does not convert Switch games into fully native PC applications: the console’s operating system and graphics API still need to emulate the inherent conversion level. Therefore, the advantage is first of all Reduce the overhead associated with translating CPU code.

These improvements are especially noticeable in open-world games and more computationally demanding games. Examples cited include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Realm, and Series Xenoblade Chronicles.
