User Corey Niblett Created A free tool for multiplayer first-person shooter WARDOGS to help your squad plan tactics on the map. After the author talked about the cost of maintaining the site, the game developer offered to pay for his first month’s work. Bills for the first week after launch were $1,372.
The tool is tied to a Discord server, allowing players to prepare battle plans together. Maps can indicate forward operating bases, landing sites, enemy positions and various facilities, as well as plot supply routes. Participants in the same room can see each other’s changes and add their own marks. Niblett said more than 37,500 people have used the service.
The service is distributed free of charge through the website War Dog Technology It does not include ads, but requires server infrastructure fees to operate. Niblett reports that in the first week of WARDOGS’ launch alone, AWS bills reached $1,372.
Mark “phantasy” Pinney from WARDOGS development studio BULKHEAD reacted to the player announcement. He offered to send him a profile and an invoice for the first month, after which the company would pay. Niblett thanked the developer but declined the offer. The tool’s creator explained that he wants to continue supporting the community and is already reducing the load on various elements of the application to make the service cheaper to operate.
