At Take-Two’s annual shareholder meeting on September 17, CEO Strauss Zernike He found himself having to manage dissatisfaction among some investors. Shareholders are not satisfied
During the meeting, Zelnick read aloud a question from a shareholder who expressed frustration with the company’s performance: “Many shareholders tolerate years of delaysfell short of expectations and continued to rely on a handful of major series. If these issues persist, does the board believe the current management team remains the right team to lead the company, or is it prepared to replace senior executives if operating performance and shareholder value creation fail to improve? ”
The CEO agrees with this fundamental principle and acknowledges that if the board deems management to be underperforming, it will inevitably be replaced. Zelnick, however, distanced himself from the shareholder premise, saying: “However, I take issue with his characterization of the facts in the question.”
Take-Two boss says GTA 6 is like Barbie
While not denying the extended production timeline (GTA V dates back to 2013, the new chapter endured two delays before a final release date was confirmed), Zelnick feels it’s necessary to contextualize the work being done by current management and remember the difficult legacy that was collected years ago.
“When this management team took over the company in March 2007,” Zelnick explains, “the company had less than $1 billion in revenue. The company was under investigation by at least four government agencies, had not filed an annual report in 13 months, and had not scheduled annual meetings despite being required to do so. They only had one large franchise store in the Greater Toronto Area. The company almost went bankrupt”.
The CEO’s argument then turned to today’s results, highlighting forecast results Revenue for the year between $8.2 billion and $8.2 billionshowing the company’s rescue and subsequent expansion.
Finally, responding to accusations of over-reliance on a handful of brands, Zelnick highlighted the statistical and commercial anomaly represented by the company’s flagship series: “GTA 5 launched in 2013 and, unlike most games, has remained among the top five best-selling games for 13 years.
