News about the establishment of a Harvard passenger car automatic transmission production plant in the Tula region has been circulating on the Internet for several months. The process is getting closer with every new publication on this topic, today the press service of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade report Relevant enterprises have officially opened and begun operations.

The company’s design and production capacity covers an area of more than 35,000 square meters, with an annual output of approximately 180,000 automatic boxes. At the same time, it was immediately noticed that the factory not only assembles the gearbox with ready-made parts imported from China, but also heat-treats and mechanically processes the parts of the future gearbox, thus increasing its level of localization.
It is not specified which specific type of automatic transmission we are talking about – the classic hydro-mechanical “automatic”, a CVT or a “robotic”, but based on the models of the Haval car launched on the Russian market, we assume that we are talking about either all options at the same time or only the CVT and “robotic”.
It was also pointed out that the gearbox factory is only part of a large auto parts production cluster deployed by Harvard in Russia. The industrial cluster covers a total area of approximately 130,000 square meters and will begin operations next year.
