ArenaNet has shared new details about the development of Guild Wars 3, confirming that the action MMO will feature a minimalist user interface.
In an interview at Gamescom, studio head Colin Johnson explained that the reduction in the number of icons and elements on the screen is mainly due to the game being released on the PlayStation 5 console, where players use a gamepad instead of a mouse and keyboard.
The developers decided to move away from the cluttered panels with buffs, debuffs and task lists that are common in games of this type, in favor of visualizing them directly on the battlefield. For example, states like being frozen are now displayed through animations and ice spreading onto enemy models, rather than small icons in the corners of the screen, forcing players to watch the action rather than the interface.
