Two other Xbox Game Studios are being relocated due to Microsoft’s current measures, but at least they will remain intact.
Recently, more and more details about Microsoft’s new restructuring have become known. Development studios Rare and Obsidian Entertainment are also affected, but luckily they won’t be shut down. Instead, they are redistributed within Xbox Game Studios and put away, so to speak.
“We are reorganizing our studio. The goal is to strengthen our franchises and games by reducing the number of business areas, realigning teams that already work closely together, and pooling our publishing expertise,” said CCO Matt Booty.
In the two cases mentioned, this specifically means: Obsidian Entertainment will be part of Bethesda in the future and will fall under its responsibility. Obsidian currently has ongoing projects such as Grounded and Fallout, currently working with Bethesda Game Studios.
Rare and World’s Edge are both owned by Activision Blizzard. The responsibilities of developers and publishers have expanded significantly within the Microsoft group, with them now also being given responsibility for the Halo series.
This means that several studios that were rumored to be closing in the past are now back on track and projects can further develop as planned.
