It is worth noting that this is the first work result of the newly established human laboratory, and it is also a test of the scientific value of Claude’s expected listing. According to the company, Crowder discovered the system by analyzing a massive database of DNA sequences. Meanwhile, scientists’ involvement is limited to setting initial questions and conducting laboratory studies.
In 21 hours, nearly 950 Claude agents processed 210 million tokens, and one of the agents discovered an unusual repeating sequence in the dataset and flagged it for human review. Further analysis and laboratory testing revealed “A previously undescribed enzyme system in bacteriophages” – Viruses that infect bacteria.
Anthropic noted that work on the system’s capabilities continues, but the company believes “It’s important to share results early, both to demonstrate Crowder’s capabilities and to let the scientific community understand where we’re headed.”.
Although Anthropic is similar to CRISPR, it’s unclear whether the discovery will have practical applications or be as revolutionary as gene-editing technology. The company itself admitted that the news was premature, as Anthropic seeks to attract more scientists to its laboratories and expand its activities, particularly through the development of new drugs.
