At the Snapdragon Summit, Microsoft launched the 12-inch Surface Pro 12 (Second Edition) tablet computer and the 13-inch Surface Laptop 13 (Second Edition), both equipped with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X2 Plus processor.

The company said that compared with the previous generation model, the new Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13 have improved Office application performance by up to 17%, battery life by up to 18%, graphics performance by up to 60%, and local AI task performance by up to 95% due to the use of faster neural processing units (NPUs).
Surface Pro 12 (Second Edition) is equipped with a six-core Snapdragon X2 Plus chip, built-in Hexagon NPU, with a performance of up to 80 TOPS, and is equipped with an Adreno graphics card. The new products are available in 16 or 24 GB LPDDR5X RAM, and 256 or 512 GB UFS persistent memory.
The machine is equipped with a 12-inch PixelSense LCD screen with an aspect ratio of 3:2, a resolution of 2196×1464 pixels, and a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The display contrast ratio is 1400:1 and the brightness is 500 cd/m22.
The tablet comes with a built-in stand, a built-in docking station for charging the pen, two USB 3.2 Type-C ports with data transfer capabilities, 60W charging and DisplayPort 1.4. The new product is also equipped with a front-facing FHD camera that supports Windows Studio Effects and Windows Hello authorization, a rear-facing 10-megapixel ultra-high-definition camera, and two 2W stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos. The tablet supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless standards, including Bluetooth LE audio.
According to the company, the Surface Pro 12 (2nd Edition) tablet can last up to 15.5 hours in video playback mode and up to 13 hours in web surfing mode. The dimensions of the tablet are 274×190×7.8 mm and the weight is 690 grams. The body of the device is made of anodized aluminum. This tablet comes with an optional magnetic keyboard.
The 12-inch Surface Pro introduces Microsoft Ink Canvas, an AI-powered, pen-centric solution for sketching, annotating, imaging, and summarizing text directly on the workspace. The Ink Canvas app will be pre-installed on the 12-inch Surface Pro 12 (Second Edition) and will be available for download from the Microsoft Store on October 13 on other supported Surface devices and Windows PCs.
The 12-inch Surface Pro 12 (Second Edition) starts at $1,149.99. The device will be available in select markets from October 13 in platinum, black and purple editions.
The 13-inch Surface Laptop 13 (Second Edition) is also equipped with a six-core Snapdragon X2 Plus processor, integrating Hexagon NPU with a performance of up to 80 TOPS and Adreno graphics card. The laptop will be available with 16 or 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and a solid-state drive with a capacity of 256 or 512 GB.
The new product is equipped with a 13-inch PixelSense touch screen with an aspect ratio of 3:2, a resolution of 1920×1280 pixels, a refresh rate of 60Hz, and a brightness of 500cd/m2.2. This monitor has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 and supports sRGB color profiles.
The laptop’s set of external connectors include two USB 3.2 Type-C ports with data transfer capabilities, 60W charging and DisplayPort 1.4, a USB 3.2 Type-A, and a 3.5mm audio output. The device is equipped with stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos, two microphones, and supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, including Bluetooth LE audio. The pre-installed operating system is Windows 11 Home.
Microsoft claims that the 13-inch Surface Laptop 13 (Second Edition) has battery life of up to 22.5 hours in video playback mode and up to 18 hours in web surfing mode. The laptop weighs 1.23 kg. The laptop body is made of anodized aluminum. In some markets, the laptop will come with a 45W USB-C charger.
The 13-inch Surface Laptop 13 (Second Edition) starts at $1,199. It will be released on October 13th in three platinum, black and purple versions.
In addition to tablets and laptops, Microsoft also launched a new office mouse, the Surface Mouse. It features a symmetrical design and dedicated customizable buttons to launch Copilot and other commands. Bluetooth 6.0 support allows the mouse to connect to multiple devices and quickly switch between them. The company did not provide detailed features of the new product.
Surface Mouse costs $79.99. It will be available in Black and Platinum colors in the Microsoft Store and authorized retailers starting October 13th.
