Modern RPGs and action RPGs are often built on the principles of open world games, where from the very beginning of the game you are free to progress in all four directions and go through the plot in the order you need. This was almost always the case, however, in ancient times the levels of locations and the monsters that inhabited them were pre-programmed by developers, whereas now so-called automatic leveling is widely used: when your character “levels up”, the opponent grows along with his level.
Most players feel that such a system completely negates the whole point of “building”, and with the recently announced “Diablo V”, Blizzard seems to finally share this view with players. Diablo V game director Joe Sheley said in an interview with the publication computer gamerin the new part of the series, auto-leveling will be abandoned.
Sheli didn’t elaborate on the specifics, only stating that the enemy progression system in the game will be different.
Developers still have a truckload and a truckload of time to work out the details: Diablo V still isn’t expected until 2029. And during this time, many things become clearer and have time to change more than once.
