The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation believes that Google’s restriction of the installation of Russian applications on Android devices through the verification process is a real threat.
Minister Maksut Shadayev told the TrizTech Day conference that the ministry is considering any operational risks in the context of tightened safety rules. The head of the department said that changes to the verification process may result in the inability to download third-party software.
This summer, Google introduced new requirements for downloading APK archives, including a mandatory 24-hour pause and system reboot for unverified developers. Although the first phase of innovation affected other countries, Russian authorities are formulating precautionary measures in case foreign IT giants suddenly impose technological restrictions.
