The developers of Warhammer 40,000: Undertow are preparing a free update, Cursed Abyss, which will be released on September 29th. Its main innovation will be Spillway missions – journeys into the deepest depths of Tettum, where players will discover new mechanics, plots and previously unknown bosses.
At first, the location looks familiar: the team will be near Torrent, a large hive water treatment complex. But the further you go in the tunnels, the more they become captive to Nurgle’s corruption. Spaces will become tighter, with growths, bubbles, and other extremely unpleasant messes appearing around them. The developers created new visuals and objects specifically to show the gradual transformation of old homes into infested nests.
The main features of a spillway are not only related to appearance. Across the mission’s two locations, the team must choose a path. There will be two options at first, then three, and each time the correct route is determined by chance. The bug won’t send the team to the next world, but will add traps, closed doors, and extra quests. In this case, players will be able to see how their teammates try to escape from the other branch. All roads eventually lead to a point – the new boss’s arena, and Fatshark now prefers to leave it as a surprise.
