Quake Champions, the shareware competitive shooter developed by id Software and Saber Interactive studios, has changed its publishing model four years after exiting Early Access.

Let’s remember that you had to pay $30 for Quake Champions when it launched into Early Access in August 2017. Twelve months later, the game became shareware, where it remained for the next nine years.
However, on September 23, 2026, everything changed. Publisher Bethesda Softworks declare Information about the transition of Quake Champions from a shareware product to a low-price paid app ($10 outside of Russian Steam).

Along with the changes to the launch model, the battle pass, in-game store and currency (Platinum, Shards), weekly challenges, daily rewards, trophies and championship progression have been removed from Quake Champions.
All champions and most cosmetics are now available to Quake Champions players. The exceptions are skins related to third-party companies: AMD’s Ruby Nyx, Nvidia’s Pulsar railgun, Twitch’s rocket launcher, and more.

Quake Champions’ transition to a paid format comes with Patch 1.31, which includes interface rearrangements, voting systems, technical and gameplay improvements, balance adjustments, and bug fixes.
As a result, Quake Champions is now only available live steam – from microsoft store The game was confiscated. The developers also clarified that they no longer plan to release content updates for the project.
