Nikon has introduced the Z5 IIC – a stripped-down version of the older Z5 II model that eliminates the electronic viewfinder, one of the two memory card slots, the AF joystick, and sports a more modest LCD display (1.04 megapixels instead of 2.1 megapixels) to save $450.

The internals of the Nikon Z5 IIC remain virtually unchanged from the older model – it’s a full-frame camera recommended for those looking to upgrade from a smaller sensor. The manufacturer didn’t sacrifice the reliable grip that Nikon devices are known for; losing the top electronic viewfinder made the camera smaller and the manufacturer was able to make it look more attractive. The camera comes in black and silver colors.
The biggest selling point of the Nikon Z5 IIC is the 24.5-megapixel full-frame sensor it shares with many other models, and is equipped with a true mechanical shutter and EXPEED 7 image processor. “Intuitive controls and automated features help first-time mirrorless camera users quickly obtain high-quality photos and videos without having to master complex settings first. As confidence and skills grow, deeper camera control and access to the NIKKOR Z Lens System will give them a reliable platform they can use for years to come.”Nikon agreed.
This camera offers a full range of scene modes, a first for a full-frame camera. Users simply select the scene that best suits their content – the device automatically optimizes color rendering, brightness, white balance, optimal calibration and other settings. There are 15 modes to choose from, which is attractive for beginners. Imaging Recipes profiles can be downloaded from the Nikon Imaging Cloud platform and feature grainy film simulation.
The Nikon Z5 IIC has built-in image stabilization and autofocus with detection and 3D tracking. There’s a pre-shooting function, as well as the ability to shoot continuously for one second at 30 frames per second – something only the electronic shutter can do, as the mechanical shutter is designed for 15 frames per second. There is a new fish detection mode, but it only works fully when photographing an aquarium – the camera needs to clearly identify the fish. By eliminating the electronic viewfinder, Nikon added a video recording light. Supports 10-bit shooting using the H.265 codec, as well as N-Log and N-RAW – footage saved to SD card.
The Nikon Z5 IIC will be available in mid-October for $1,399.99, with a 24-50mm f/4-6.3 lens for $1,699.95.
