Collectors of Pokémon-related material with a particular affinity for gold will soon be able to purchase an item that is out of reach for most fans: Pokémon statues. Goldengo Made entirely of 24 karat solid gold. The piece, which is 6 centimeters tall and weighs 15 grams, will be sold in Japan for 1.54 million yen, equivalent to more than 8,500 euros at current exchange rates.
The choice of materials reflects the Pokémon’s characteristics, and the Pokémon’s body is described in the Pokédex entry as Composed of gold. So, in this case, the gold finish does not simply come from the painting of the plastic statue, but from the actual use of 24-karat gold.
The statue will be on display at the Yokohama Gold Exhibition at Takashimaya Department Store in Yokohama from September 30 to October 5. The public will be able to see the work up close, and the auction will be open to anyone who can afford the item.

The exhibition will also feature two larger Pokémon replicas: life size pikachu Height is 50 cm, Gholdengo is 120 cm tall, consistent with the dimensions shown in the illustrated book. In this case, they’re not solid gold figures: both are covered in gold leaf, with Pikachu using around 200 gold leaves and Gordon Go using 730 gold leaves. However, these two volumes will not be released.
