Arrowhead Games summarizes the results of the major update to “Unfreedom Abyss” through the perspective of creative director Mikael Eriksson. The developer calls this version an important model for Helldiver 2, but admits it’s not without its problems.
As envisioned by the studio, this update should make the influence of the Void and Illuminati noticeable not only on the battlefield, but also beyond it – in mission descriptions, military reports, and community actions. The author also wanted to delve deeper into the history of the Illuminati, add more differences between their fleets, and force players to carefully choose gear for specific threats. In addition, Ericsson also highlighted SEAF forces: allies capable of executing orders, reacting to what is happening, and helping single players and incomplete groups.
The fly in the ointment is. After launch, the developers had to release two patches due to stability issues, including crashes when interacting with the terminal and bugs on ultrawide monitors. The studio also acknowledged that players will want to stay in the void longer, and the community’s decisions should have a greater impact on the campaign’s conclusion. Work is currently underway on the structure of future events.
However, the “Abyss of Unfreedom” will not be the last chapter in the history of the Illuminati. Arrowhead intends to focus on stability between updates and then continue to experiment with the length of events and the community’s ability to influence event development.
