Intel has released a new version of PresentMon 2.6.0, a free utility for monitoring and analyzing gaming performance. The main change is that the load on the processor itself is significantly reduced. Due to changes in ETW event handling, CPU consumption under load has been reduced by up to 78%, and this improvement even applies to mobile systems.
At the same time, new gaming experience presets for screen overlays have appeared in PresentMon. It focuses not only on the usual FPS and component loading, but also on metrics that should better reflect perceived motion smoothness and animation quality. The utility now also displays unavailable indicators and explains why the corresponding data cannot be obtained.
Tools for deeper analysis have also been updated. PresentMon has learned to track PSO compilations in DirectX 12, including number of operations, duration and system load. Additionally, handling of frame output events and telemetry for multiple video cards simultaneously has been improved.
