French company Bleujour, which produces designer computer cases, has completed an unusual order to develop a cubic case made of solid gold as part of its iconic Kubb range. The case acts as a passive cooling system for the entire system. The finished product weighs about 13 kilograms and costs about US$1.7 million.

According to FanlessTech, in this exclusive variant, the Kubb’s standard aluminum casing is replaced with a 24-carat gold casing. The regular Kubb Fanless model comes with a cubic aluminum body (120 × 120 × 120 mm) and weighs 2.1 kg. Bleujour designed the Kubb case as part of a passive cooling system: milled heat sinks increase surface area for efficient heat dissipation.
The unusual choice of materials is not just for aesthetic reasons. As FanlessTech points out, gold has a 30-50% higher thermal conductivity than aluminum, so the heavier case should perform better as a passive heat sink.
Clearly, gold is far from the most practical material for such purposes. Copper has a higher thermal conductivity and is much cheaper, but saving is clearly not a priority in this case.
The current Kubb Fanless platform supports Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, Core Ultra X7 358H or AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 processors. DDR5 RAM is available in capacities up to 128 GB, and M.2 NVMe drives are also available in capacities of 1 TB or more, with the ability to install a second SSD.
Prices for standard aluminum systems on the Kubb website start from 1,595 euros. However, this configuration is not yet commercially available. The gold version costs about a thousand times more than the regular model, and most of the price is for the casing, not the computer hardware itself.
