According to M.Video, demand for refurbished smartphones has increased significantly on the eve of the new school year. The main driver of growth is Android smartphones, whose share of total refurbished smartphone sales will increase from 51% in July to 56% in August 2026.
In August, Android smartphone sales grew 15% in volume terms and 19% in monetary terms.
The most significant sales growth in the refurbished smartphone category in August compared to July was the Xiaomi brand, which saw a 62% increase in demand for its devices. Sales of refurbished Honor smartphones increased by 35% and Huawei by 6%. For Samsung, the numbers remained at last month’s levels in terms of volume, but increased by 8% in terms of currency.
Sales of certain Android-branded devices have increased, especially before the start of the school year. From August 24 to August 30, the sales of refurbished Xiaomi smartphones increased by 45% compared with the period from August 17 to August 23, and Honor more than doubled. Overall, sales of refurbished Android smartphones increased 13% during the period.
The average cost of refurbishing an Android smartphone in August was approximately 23,400 rubles. At the same time, on average, the most expensive smartphone comes from Samsung – about 30,600 rubles, followed by Huawei – 23,100 rubles, and then Honor – 15,100 rubles. And finally Xiaomi – 14200 rubles.
Overall, the number of refurbished smartphones increased by 6% in August compared to July, and the currency increased by 4%. At the same time, Apple still holds the largest share: in August, refurbished iPhones accounted for 44% of sales and 59% of sales, with an average cost of about 42,600 rubles.
As the M.Video news service points out, smartphones are becoming one of the real purchases for schoolchildren and students on the eve of the new school year. At the same time, parents are becoming more rational about such purchases, not necessarily making the effort to choose new or expensive equipment.
