One enthusiast ordered a special version of the Kubb Fanless mini computer with a casing made entirely of 24-karat gold. The unusual computer costs approximately $1.7 million to purchase, and its weight increases from the usual 2.1 kilograms to nearly 13 kilograms. At the same time, there’s a pretty average iron inside, for the price.
The main reason for using gold is not just its appearance. Its thermal conductivity is approximately 314 W/m·K, compared with 205 W/m·K for aluminum. The manufacturer claims that the gold case transfers heat about 30-50% more efficiently than the aluminum case, which is especially important for complete passive cooling, which is why you should pay over a million and a half dollars for this computer.
By the way, it is interesting to note that copper has a higher thermal conductivity, which completely negates the importance of the manufacturer’s claims. Of course, copper PCs cost thousands of times less.
The standard Kubb Fanless is equipped with Core Ultra 5 225H, Core Ultra X7 358H or Ryzen AI 5 340, supports up to 128 GB DDR5, and has M.2 NVMe storage. USB4, HDMI 2.1, two RJ45 and Wi-Fi are also provided. The Gold Edition adds up to one of the most expensive mini PCs in the world.
