Ahead of the global release of Aion 2, NC America Vice President Merv Lee Kwai gave a candid interview to discuss the current state of the MMORPG market. In his view, the industry is not going through the best of times: the huge cost of long-term support (real-time operations) and huge front-end risks are making publishers unlikely to conduct large-scale experiments with new IPs.
However, a company with 30 years of experience in MMORPG production is challenging the market again. A recent large-scale test showed that Aion 2 Featuring cutting-edge graphics, fluid combat, and the return of fan-favorite flight mechanics. At the same time, the creator believes that the key to the project’s success is not the immediate numbers at the outset, but longevity, respecting the origins of the original game and carefully adapting the content to the needs of Western audiences.
The program’s massive advertising campaign will launch on September 30, along with the launch of War For Atreia, a two-week global event where teams of content creators from around the world will compete in PvP and PvE tests.
