In early September, Google launched a program to disable the artificial intelligence assistant Google Assistant on mobile devices. Nowadays, this happens everywhere on most types of devices.

The process of migrating Google Assistant users to Gemini has been ongoing for several weeks. The company originally planned to complete the transition in 2025, but the deadline was later pushed back to 2026, and in early August Google announced a specific date – starting on September 4. Judging from numerous reports from Android users, the migration process is in full swing. All sources verified by journalists 9 to 5 google Google Assistant is no longer available on US and European devices and all accounts.
The “Switch to Google Assistant” setting has disappeared from the Gemini app. In the stable version of the app 17.60 and the beta version numbered 17.62, it no longer appears at the bottom of the account menu. Users of the Android ecosystem will therefore be unable to switch to Google Assistant on smartphones, tablets and paired devices, and will not be able to use outdated services. This applies to smartwatches, headphones, and Android Auto car systems powered by Google Wear OS.
These changes have not yet affected smart speakers and smart displays Google Nest and Google Home, as well as similar devices that support Google Assistant. The main voice assistant on Android devices is now Gemini – it can be summoned via a long press on the power button and a gesture command on the corner of the touch screen.
