This is great news for all gaming industry veterans and retro gaming enthusiasts. While classic MMORPG Meridian 59 quietly celebrates its 30th anniversary thanks to the efforts of dedicated volunteers, a fan of the project who goes by the nickname Acrobatic-Shape has begun an ambitious redesign of the game in the Unity engine.
The gameplay trailer he released shows the familiar space from Marion to Tos, but divided into three versions: updated models, improved graphics and retaining the authentic atmosphere. The author notes that he spent several years creating a modern client and obtained official permission to use the intellectual property rights. While the original game’s first-person perspective and pseudo-3D engine may scare off today’s unprepared gamers, its contribution to the birth of the genre cannot be overestimated.
