A glitch in Google’s infrastructure caused an unusual situation for iPhone users: Many apps close immediately after launchingno new updates are installed. This issue affects applications that use Google Analytics through Firebase and affected versions that have been distributed on the App Store.
Therefore, the cause is not an iOS update or a bug introduced by the respective app developers. However, a Firebase server-side issue caused the Analytics component to receive data in an unexpected format, causing it to crash during startup.

The problem occurred at 5:41 pm Pacific time on September 28, corresponding to the early morning of September 29 in Italy. According to a report published by the official Firebase repository, Google Analytics for Firebase component for iOS receives malformed response. The glitch also manifests itself on already installed and running applications without the need to release a new version. An NSInvalidArgumentException error appears in some developer logs related to processing data received from Firebase Analytics.

Google has completed the fix 7:52 p.m. Pacific time, about two hours after the incident. No need to update the SDK or release a new version of the app – the fix is already applied server-side. However, due to caching, some applications may remain closed for several hours after the intervention.
The issue has now been resolved and the number of crashes is back to normal. But Google has yet to provide a full technical explanation Reasons behind wrong answers. Oddly, while testing, Firebase’s public status panel reported no events, further specifying that events related to Google Analytics are handled via the relevant status panel.
