Volkswagen has spent the past five years trying to find its place in a rapidly changing passenger car market. The ID range of electric vehicles has been sequestered, but this year the segment’s key crossover will be called the ID. Tiguan, demonstrating the continuity of this popular name under new conditions.

In the European market, the ID.Tiguan will replace the ID.4 and its sporty ID.5 version early next year, although production of the electric car of the same name will continue in China until the new global model reaches the local market. In the United States, production of the ID.4 was discontinued as early as April this year. Although Volkswagen Press Release The appearance of the ID. Tiguan and two bumper designs are shown from different angles. The interior of the car is still covered with camouflage film, and the interior is not shown. The debut of the ID.Tiguan is scheduled for early October, so the manufacturer anticipates this event and clarified the further composition of the model range.

ID.4 has sold 950,000 units since 2021, so it cannot be called a failure in terms of sales. It is expected that the lack of physical control buttons in the interior of the ID.Tiguan that has deterred buyers will be rectified, following the example of the ID.3 NEO and ID.Polo. Sold alongside the electric ID.Tiguan is the regular Tiguan with a combustion engine or hybrid powertrain. Currently, the eponymous crossover remains the most popular model not only in the Volkswagen range but in the entire parent group’s offerings. Last year alone, the Tiguan and its sister car, the Tayron, sold more than 1 million units. From a marketing perspective, using a well-known name to refer to a new electric vehicle certainly makes sense.

While the ID.Tiguan borrows some styling cues from the ID.4 (pictured above), the body shape has become more linear, as has the lighting design. The smaller ID.Polo and ID.Cross have also been launched recently, with the former so popular in Europe that waiting times are as long as ten months due to rising fuel prices during the booking phase. Obviously, judging from sales, Volkswagen has placed its main bet on the ID. Tiguan. Last year, Volkswagen sold about 382,000 electric vehicles globally.
