Developer Sword has released PS5SX2 1.00, a port of the PCSX2 emulator that lets you run PlayStation 2 games directly on a jailbroken PS5. The program runs on the console hardware rather than streaming images from other devices. At the same time, older games can run at up to six times the original resolution, allowing images to be displayed in 4K format.
The emulator uses the PS5 processor and the PCSX2 recompiler of the Vulkan graphics driver. FSR scaling, CRT filters, aspect ratio and graphics settings are also provided. Supports patch format .pnach, including modifications to widescreen images, increasing the frame rate to 60 FPS.
Games tested include God of War, Gran Turismo 4, Ratchet & Clank 3, Need for Speed: Most Wanted Black Edition, and Kingdom Hearts Final Mix. According to the developer, Ratchet & Clank 3 runs at around 50 FPS and six times the resolution, while some other games require lower settings.
