TP-Link announced that it has begun accepting pre-orders for the Archer 8 Ultra, its first Wi-Fi 8 router. The new product is actually the second router in the world to support the yet-to-be-finalized communications standard.

It is worth noting that TP-Link has opened reservations in other countries around the world, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and Australia, but has not yet opened reservations in the United States, one of the company’s main markets. The manufacturer has not yet obtained the necessary license from the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to sell such devices in the country.
The Archer 8 Ultra router uses Broadcom’s Wi-Fi 8 chipset, which improves actual throughput by 33% compared to TP-Link Wi-Fi 7 devices, while providing more stable data transfer speeds in high-interference environments.
The Archer 8 Ultra comes with two WAN/LAN ports with speeds of 10 Gbps and automatic connection type detection, and four LAN ports with speeds of 2.5 Gbps. According to TP-Link, the router has a coverage area of up to 3,600 square feet (approximately 335 m) thanks to 18 antennas.2), the number of supported connected devices reaches 200. The new product also claims to be compatible with digital assistants Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Therefore, it can be controlled via voice commands. According to German retailer Tapo, the Archer 8 Ultra router is priced at 799.90 euros.
Wi-Fi 8-enabled TP-Link series devices will complement the Deco 8 Ultra mesh system in the first quarter of 2027, and the Roam 8 portable router in the second quarter. This year, the range will also expand with new wireless adapters (PCIe and USB), access points and signal amplifiers.
It should be added that Archer 8 Ultra is not the first router on the market to support Wi-Fi 8. Previously, ASUS released the ROG Rapture GT-BN98, a gaming model with the same functions.
Interestingly, the Wi-Fi 8 standard has not yet been approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance – this should not happen until the end of 2028. It was previously expected that the first consumer devices supporting next-generation wireless communications would appear in the same year. However, some manufacturers decided not to wait for the specifications to be approved. Meanwhile, a Netgear representative at IFA 2026 told this reporter that the company will only release devices with Wi-Fi 8 once the standard is approved – otherwise it will “Not true Wi-Fi 8”although the company is already developing accordingly.
