The Xbox game digitization feature is currently being tested behind the scenes and is now available to all users. Microsoft may be preparing for a disc-less future.
Microsoft has not yet decided whether the next-generation Xbox Project Helix game console will have a disc drive. At the same time, they seem to be continuing to prepare for a possible disc-free future, as the disc-to-digital feature, which was previously only available to select players, is now available to all Xbox gamers.
You can use a new mechanism to digitize disc versions of Xbox games you purchase for future use. Once registered, the content can be downloaded and played digitally in the future without inserting a disc.
The disc-to-digital feature has been announced in the press for weeks and is being tested behind the scenes by Xbox Insiders. Now this has begun generally. Previous Xbox games are also supported, with the exception of first-generation Xbox and Xbox 360 games.
However, depending on the developer or publisher, there may be restrictions as third-party companies must agree to the appropriate licenses. A lot has been happening in this regard, for example, recently SEGA became the next bigger company to use disc-to-digital.
If you digitize a game that supports Xbox Play Anywhere, you can access the digital version not only on your Xbox, but also on a supported handheld or PC platform.
