Huawei launched the Mate 90 series of flagship smartphones today, and it has not forgotten its tradition of launching Ultimate Design series models that stand out with their appearance. The new Mate 90 RS combines eye-catching design with next-generation flagship performance.

If the Mate 90 Pro Max launched today is equipped with a disc-shaped camera module, then Mate 90RS Designed as an octagon with an adjacent wedge-shaped element (pictured below) containing the words “Ultimate Design”, its silhouette is meant to evoke associations with sports cars from well-known brands. The features of the camera unit are inherited from the Mate 90 Pro Max.
The main camera is equipped with a 50-megapixel sensor (1/1.28 inches), supports optical image stabilization, and is equipped with a variable aperture (f/1.4-f/4.0). Next to it is a 4-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 20-megapixel periscope telephoto module equipped with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, optical stabilization and RYYB color filter. The fourth camera in the device supports 4x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom.
In addition, Mate 90 RS can be connected to the Ruiying Z10 unit (first photo), which is equipped with its own inch RYYB sensor with a resolution of 50 MP and a focal length of 24 to 240 mm. In this sense, this smartphone has something in common with the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector’s Edition, which also provides support for external modules. It is sold separately from these smartphones for $895.
Like the Mate 90 Pro Max, the RS version uses the HiSilicon Kirin 9500 Pro processor, a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display with a resolution of 2848×1320 pixels, and a battery capacity of 6800mAh. Unlike the regular Mate 90 Pro Max, which can be equipped with up to 1 TB of storage, the Mate 90 RS can be purchased with double the storage capacity to 2 TB. RAM capacity in all modifications is 16 GB.
The Mate 90 RS is also equipped with IP69 protection against dust and hot water jets (up to 85 degrees Celsius), and can exchange data over satellite networks in an emergency, but only in mainland China, excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Island. This feature requires a subscription to an appropriate communications service and no serious barriers between the smartphone and the satellite.
The Mate 90 RS smartphone measures 164.5 × 78.7 × 8.4 mm and weighs approximately 248 grams. It can charge a device with a power of up to 100 W via the USB-C port, and can also charge another device with a power of up to 18 W via a cable. Wireless charging power reaches 50W; this type of reverse charging is also available, but with less power.
In China, the Mate 90 RS version with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB hard drive is priced at $1,939, and the regular version with TB hard drive is priced at $2,237, but for the maximum capacity modification (2 TB), you will have to pay $2,834. In the Chinese local market, this smartphone will start shipping on November 11 this year.
