The escape shooter journey of the PUBG series is over again! Krafton has officially canceled PUBG: Black Budget.
The battle royale genre once gained social recognition with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, but the series has expanded even further since then. With spin-off PUBG: Black Budget, Crafton actually wanted to establish a foothold in the escape-shooter genre, but that plan has now been shelved.
Black Budget has been in the works for a while and aims to combine escape shooter mechanics with traditional battle royale mechanics. The initial playtest was generally good and did attract some players. At its peak, almost 10,000 interested people took part in such tests simultaneously – but this was clearly not enough for Krafton.
After an internal review, the company has now decided not to continue developing PUBG: Black Budget and has scrapped the game again. The conclusion is that the direction taken so far does not allow players to have a good long-term gaming experience.
A statement on Steam reads: “After reviewing the development status and future direction of the project, we have concluded that the current direction does not allow us to deliver a gameplay experience that players will enjoy in the long term. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to pause development of PUBG: Black Budget. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in our Closed Alpha test and provide us with feedback.”
Insights and experiences gained from the game will be incorporated into other future PUBG Studios games.
