Despite being the biggest and most anticipated blockbuster of the decade, serious questions are starting to be raised about GTA 6’s ability to win at the upcoming 2026 Game Awards. According to former journalist and multi-award jury member Alana Pierce, an ambitious project from Rockstar Games may not even qualify for a Game of the Year nomination due to the peculiarities of the release calendar.
The main obstacle is the jury’s time crunch. The shortlisting and voting process begins as early as November (the first round of voting takes place at the beginning and mid-month, well before the December show). It’s physically impossible to complete a large-scale story-based game weeks before final voting, and awarding awards to projects that jury members didn’t have time to complete in full goes against the principles of objectivity.
However, experts point out that even if it is possible to omit the main categories grand theft auto 6 A sure win in a technical, visual or genre category.
Meanwhile, the developers continue to stoke interest in the project by sharing new details: the game will feature complex weather systems that change in real time, and the open-world ecosystem will include more than 170 unique animals.
