Anthropic rushes to go public – is direct investment not enough anymore?

Anthropic plans an initial public offering as early as November 2026, hoping to start trading around Thanksgiving. According to Bloomberg, market expectations are very high, and investors estimate the fair value of artificial intelligence developers to be between US$180 and US$2 trillion.

The company’s financial statements appear extremely contradictory. Over the past year, revenue has grown more than tenfold to $4.6 billion, but operating expenses have exceeded $8 billion, and the overall net loss has been close to $42 billion due to the restatement of liabilities. Although the financial sustainability of the industry is increasingly being questioned, management is still eager to go public amid fierce competition from OpenAI.
