METRO 2033 Redux is getting ready to receive a major free update for modern hardware. The developers retained the game’s original look but added graphics, sound and performance improvements, as well as support for new consoles.

The update will be released on PC on October 22nd and will bring 4K textures, DLSS, spatial audio, improved animations, lighting and environment details. At the same time, the team will be fixing bugs and making a number of improvements that players have long requested. This isn’t a remaster, and it certainly isn’t a remake – Metro Redux will remain the same, it’s just that the old tunnels now look and sound noticeably more modern.

The update will be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29th. Consoles will receive native support for the next generation, and owners of compatible screens will be able to rely on 4K graphics at 60 FPS or upgrade to 4K graphics at 120 FPS. PS5 Pro will support PSSR, Xbox Series X will receive TSR, and both platforms will receive improved shadows, lighting, particles, and spatial audio. Support for adaptive triggers and pulse triggers has also been added.

The reason for the update is rather symbolic: the METRO series has sold 50 million copies worldwide. Now, Redux owners can go underground again ahead of the release of the next installment in the series.
