valve posted September 2026 Steam Hardware Survey Resultsa monthly survey that captures the hardware used by platform users. The survey is anonymous and participation is optional, so the data is not necessarily representative of the entire installed base of gaming PCs.
However, there are two particularly noticeable changes this time around. The GeForce RTX 5070 topped the list of detected graphics cards, with systems with 32 GB of RAM becoming the most common configuration, surpassing those with 16 GB.
NVIDIA crushes rivals, but AMD continues to make progress in CPU space
RTX 5070 reaches 5.86% of detected systemsan increase of 2.30 percentage points from 3.56% in August. Other GPUs in the RTX 50 series also recorded continued growth: the RTX 5060 Ti reached 3.87%, an increase of 1.46 percentage points, while the RTX 5060 increased by 1.22 percentage points to 4.20%.
Single GPU top ten However, no Radeon or Intel models appear. Taking into account the overall share of GeForce RTX 5050, 5060, 5060 Ti, 5070, 5070 Ti, 5080 and 5090, their share reaches 18.21%, compared to August’s record of around 12.93%.
AMD Ryzen Z3 may focus on giving handheld computers more GPUs and fewer cores
However, the most significant changes involve system memory. PCs with 32 GB RAM increased by 4.77 percentage points from 37.45% to 42.22%. During the same period, 16 GB systems dropped from 41.20% to 37.82%. Therefore, it was discovered for the first time during the investigation that 32GB configuration is better than 16GB.
Resolutions also show a significant shift. The 2560×1440 format dropped from 21.86% to 27.04%, while the 1920×1080 Full HD format dropped from 50.52% to 47.91%. However, 1080p remains the most commonly used resolutionbut for the first time in the survey was less than half of the systems analyzed.
However, on the processor side, AMD continues to close the gap with Intel. AMD processors’ share of Windows PCs dropped from 45.52% to 47.41%, while Intel processors dropped from 54.47% to 52.59%. The gap between the two manufacturers thus narrowed to 5.18 percentage points.
September data shows that the number of new NVIDIA GPUs in PC fleets and the amount of installed memory are increasing, while 1440p is gaining ground compared to Full HD. However, since this is a voluntary and anonymous survey, these values should be viewed as a snapshot of the Steam users who participated in the survey, rather than a census of the PC market as a whole.
