Sony has an unexpected surprise for owners of the first-generation PlayStation 5. Engineers adjusted the image scaling algorithm of PS5 Pro to the standard console model and introduced Quick Spectral Super-Resolution (QSSR) technology. This new product is designed to replace outdated temporal anti-aliasing methods and deliver a fundamentally different level of image clarity without sacrificing frame rate.
Unlike PSSR on the Pro version, which targets full 4K rendering, QSSR focuses on stable 1440p image output. Lightweight neural networks take over the reconstruction of small details and eliminate texture flickering in motion. The first projects to support the new feature are Marvel’s Wolverine and Rambo. The QSSR library is already open to third-party developers, so the list of compatible games will continue to grow in the future.
Let’s remember that PSSR 2 is actually FSR 4, so the QSSR algorithm is most likely a lightweight version of FSR 4 for older AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards.
