Valve has released another SteamOS update for Steam Frame, and this time the main benefits are not hidden in new features, but in autonomy. Whether streaming or running games locally, the headset becomes more economical – with up to a 12% increase in runtime.
Exact results depend on frame rate and the nature of your workload, so not all usage scenarios will benefit equally from the extra minutes. Meanwhile, for headphones that work for about two hours while streaming, the maximum increase is about 15 minutes. And that’s just on paper: in VR, even extra gaming sessions can come in handy.
The update also adds the ability to limit eye tracking to one eye, fixes the loading of controller layouts in some games, and improves the handling of UI elements for grabbing and resizing. Valve has separately fixed VR streaming stability and Bug 17, as well as fixing issues connecting to the Steam Frame wireless adapter in some countries. To reduce error 17 on PC, you need SteamVR 2.18.2 or higher.
