Disney executives have quashed rumors of a possible outright acquisition of Epic Games, despite previously investing billions of dollars and acquiring a 9% stake.
Disney President and Chief Creative Officer Dana Walden said acquiring the company is not currently on the agenda, but the partnership remains actively developed. Over the next two years, the partners are preparing for a series of major launches and collaborations to clearly demonstrate the full value of the alliance.
The partnership between the two companies already provides players with images of many themed seasons and iconic characters – from Marvel and Star Wars heroes to Pirates of the Caribbean and Toy Story. Fans can look forward to new large-scale integrations in the future, with the upcoming release of the Marvel Cinematic Universe further fueling rumors that the world of Disney will be integrated into the Fortnite virtual sandbox.
