Pixelity Studios has shared new details about its ambitious VR project Neon Genesis Evangelion: Cross Reflection, which brings the iconic Neon Genesis Evangelion universe into virtual and mixed reality.
The project is being developed as a full-fledged story-adventure game that tells the events of the original series through the stories of the new NERV students. The author promises that large-scale set pieces, meetings with classic characters and grand battles with angels will be able to convey the true sense of immortality of the giant robots.
Early impressions of the gameplay prove that the developers worked hard to make more than just a superficial shooting gallery, but a deep game with unique mechanics. Movement and combat revolve around intuitive gestures, physical attacks, blocking and weapon manipulation, while tactical depth is enhanced by random buffs and a special weapon system. Although the release of the first part of the game has been delayed until 2027, the project has already attracted a lot of attention for its careful development and fidelity to the spirit of the original.
Do you think a full-fledged VR project would be able to convey all the darkness and psychological depth of the original anime series?
