Sho Tomohiko Sho admits that the success of “Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Remastered Edition” can pave the way for future remakes. But the series producer himself would rather spend the rest of his career working on new games and sequels than returning to old projects.
In an interview with 4Gamer, Sho explained that a continuation of the series with a remake is technically possible. If the new version of “Dynasty Warriors 3” is well received, Koei Tecmo may consider “Dynasty Warriors 4” and subsequent games, including games that are not currently available on Steam. The problem is that modern remakes of projects like these actually become full-blown remakes. Sho joked that while making the third installment, he repeatedly wondered why he was remaking a game he once created himself.
The producer is now in his fifties, so he’s increasingly thinking about how many games he still has time to make before retiring. According to him, he’s more interested in pursuing new projects and sequels, although he doesn’t want to ignore the requests of Dynasty Warriors fans. Therefore, it’s more likely that he’ll move further remasters to another team.
Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Remastered was released this week to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original PlayStation 2 game. The project has been moved to Unreal Engine 5 and its development took several years. Now, all that’s left for Sho is to wait for players’ reaction to see if they’re actually ready to send him back in time for a few more years.
