DJI Innovations has released the Osmo 360 II 360-degree camera. The updated model is equipped with a 1-inch square sensor and supports 8K resolution and 60 frames per second video recording. The new model also supports 14.5 stops of dynamic range. In addition, the camera also provides a new low-light shooting mode and supports AI functions.

The Osmo 360 II is priced starting at 3,299 yuan (approximately US$490) in China. The basic package includes a camera, a freeze-proof battery with a capacity of 2150mAh, two protective mirror cases, a carrying bag and other accessories. DJI also offers a shooting kit priced at 3,999 yuan (approximately US$580), which includes two additional batteries, a multi-functional battery box, an adjustable quick-release adapter, and a 1.2-meter selfie stick.

The camera itself weighs 183 grams. According to DJI, the lens uses a second-generation optical super-hard coating to improve scratch and wear resistance. The company has also made the lens removable, so you don’t have to replace the entire camera if you accidentally bump it.

Osmo 360 II has 105 GB of built-in memory, the same as its predecessor. According to DJI, the included freeze-proof battery allows you to record 8K videos continuously at 30fps for 100 minutes. It charges to 80% in approximately 22 minutes, and an optional reversible magnetically mounted rechargeable battery extends runtime by an additional 180 minutes.

The main feature of the Osmo 360 II is a new square sensor that supports extended dynamic range. According to DJI, it is specially designed for panoramic cameras and uses its space more efficiently than traditional 1-inch sensors. According to the company, it’s 25% more efficient than other traditional lenses while maintaining the wide field of view required for 360-degree photography. The sensor uses 2.4 micron pixels and works with image processing hardware to capture 8K resolution panoramic videos at 60 frames per second.

The Osmo 360 II claims a dynamic range of 14.5 stops, which DJI says is double the brightness capabilities of the previous generation camera. The Osmo 360 II’s front and rear sensors can also adjust exposure independently.

The camera uses f/1.9 optical elements and DJI AI Super Night Scene 2.0 noise reduction system to improve shooting quality under low light conditions. In addition to shooting 8K videos, Osmo 360 II can also shoot 120MP high dynamic range panoramic photos, 16K slow-motion panoramic photos, and 8K/120fps time-lapse photography. Osmo 360 II can shoot 10-bit color video and supports D-Log M color profile.

DJI is positioning the Osmo 360 II as more than just a travel camera. The company designed it for hands-free shooting, which makes sense for a 360-degree device that’s often used to shoot from unusual angles. Motorcyclists can use special accessories to mount the camera on their motorcycle and control it using hand gestures or voice commands. While skiing, the camera can record 8K slow-motion and 64x ultra-slow-motion panoramic shots. According to DJI, users only need to rotate the selfie stick or use gestures to start recording. Camera controls are still available even when wearing gloves.

The camera is said to be waterproof to 10 meters without the case. Taking into account the compact transparent housing, the possible immersion depth will increase to 50 meters.

One of the most interesting software additions to the Osmo 360 II is its AI-driven subject tracking. The camera can recognize the subject and keep it centered in the frame as it rotates or changes orientation. Osmo 360 II also supports one-click image creation using AI and one-click NFC connection for faster setup. In addition, the camera can also directly connect to compatible DJI Mic 3 and DJI Mic Mini 2 microphone transmitters via OsmoAudio.

Osmo 360 II uses a 1/4-inch threaded two-way magnetic quick-release system. It allows you to use DJI’s Osmo accessories with the camera, as well as more traditional camera mounts. The battery is also compatible with Osmo Action series cameras, so if you have other DJI action cameras, you can use the same accessories and batteries.
