AMD urged Radeon RX 7000 owners to update their firmware – details about the vulnerabilities are still kept secret

AMD has admitted the presence of a security hole in Radeon RX 7000 video cards, but is still keeping the details secret. Sapphire and Gigabyte have already released vBIOS updates for a number of models. AMD strongly recommends installing these patches immediately upon release, although, according to the company, there is no evidence of practical exploitation of the vulnerabilities yet.

AMD has confirmed that these patches are part of a coordinated security update and recommends installing them immediately upon release. According to Hardwareluxx, which received AMD’s comment through Sapphire, patches are being released before details about the vulnerabilities are officially disclosed. This gives graphics card manufacturers and end users time to update affected hardware.

“As standard, AMD releases a microcode update to address potential security vulnerabilities. These fixes are made available prior to the public announcement to give customers time to update the firmware. We strongly recommend that users update their graphics card microcode as soon as the manufacturer releases the appropriate update. At the moment, there are no recorded cases of exploitation of these vulnerabilities in practice.”AMD said in a statement to Hardwareluxx.

Sapphire has published tools for updating the firmware of eight models of Radeon RX 7000 video cards – from the RX 7600 to the RX 7900 XTX. According to her, the updates address security issues identified jointly with AMD. However, Sapphire also noted that some RX 7000 card models are not yet supported and will require additional updates.

Gigabyte has also released vBIOS updates for a number of Radeon RX 7000 graphics cards. The company’s technical support pages directly mention vBIOS vBIOS vulnerabilities from AMD and contain a link to security bulletin AMD-SN-6023. Some of these updates date back to September 2026, suggesting that the process of spreading them began before the current reports.

At the time of publication, AMD had not yet published security bulletin AMD-SN-6023 on its product safety website. In this regard, precise information about vulnerabilities, the degree of their danger and the conditions necessary for their exploitation is not yet available. AMD only confirmed that it has not received information about cases of practical exploitation of these vulnerabilities.
