The era of the Volkswagen ID.4 electric crossover is over. It arrived in 2021, becoming one of the company’s first new electric vehicles since the Dieselgate scandal. Volkswagen has sold almost a million units of the ID.4 and the almost identical ID.5 worldwide, but now the company has decided that the time has come to release a successor – it is called ID. Tiguan, that is, the automaker abandoned the digital index in favor of the bestseller.
“Tiguan is our best-selling model globally, the ID.4 and ID.5 are among our best-selling electric vehicles. ID. Tiguan combines these two success stories.” – said VW brand CEO Thomas Schäfer.

Volkswagen was one of the first to use flexible platforms to create a wide range of models of different classes and body types based on standardized components, maintaining this approach in the electric vehicle segment. ID basis. Tiguan is an upgraded version of the mass-produced MEB+ electric vehicle platform. The machine is equipped with batteries with a capacity of 58 or 77 kWh. The first option is only available in a version with a rear electric motor producing 187 hp. (140 kW), and the second – with either rear-wheel drive (281 hp / 210 kW) or all-wheel drive (295 hp / 220 kW). The range according to the European WLTP cycle is up to 600 km.

Volkswagen ID. The Tiguan features a traditional look with a new corporate identity called Pure Positive. The company sought to give ID. The Tiguan has the look and feel of a premium car, not a mass-market model – inside and out. The usual door handles have returned, although this was done at the request of Chinese regulators. There is an abundance of physical controls: buttons on the steering wheel, climate control and power window switches, and traditional ventilation deflectors instead of electronically controlled systems.

The cabin features a new 15-inch multimedia system screen, with an optional 12-inch display for the front seat passenger. One of the design options for the 10-inch digital dashboard is interesting – retro-style instruments. Instead of the standard modern design, these can be instruments and indicators of classic models: the first or fourth generation Golf, the second generation Golf Country, the first generation Tiguan, the Touareg rally or the Beetle. Regarding the latter, it is not clear which version we are talking about: the classic one or the one recreated in the nineties.
